HOMEWORK

For the next few weeks you will be working on a type driven design project. You will be designing only the front face of a package. Please choose one of the following as your topic (to read the text and client summary, click on the topic links below):

* Coffee

* Frozen Fruit Bars

* Whiskey

2. Start by creating a Style Board. Print out your style board and bring it to class. Click here to download Style Board.

3. Use the provided text from the topic links above and choose one body text typeface for it. Layout the text in your document. Consider text groupings, hierarchy, alignments, scale, weight/emphasis (Similar to the approach you used for your business card). Experiment with creating small visual groupings of text in "bugs", "flags", "stamps", emblems, and/or "nested text", etc.

When you get a layout structure you think is working well, choose a second typeface classification to use as the flavor/emphasis for your design.

For your digital rough, don’t bother using color/imagery/illustration at this point and try not to make the ornamentation the focal point of the design. I want to focus our attention ONLY on hierarchy, grouping, scale weight/emphasis and typographic tone. It doesn't have to look pretty, yet. Print out your file and bring it to class next week. Bring your style board and your rough digital design to class next week for a work-in-progress review.
