In class:

Magazine roles and production cycles lecture.

BREAK

Elements of a feature article lecture and things to look for with body text.
In class exercise: Choose one of your article's body text and make a text spec sheet, on an 8.5" x 11" page. You will be using your body text typeface from your moodboard and setting the text to a size and leading you think you might like to use for your magazine. Then, as a second option, try the same typeface at a different size/leading. Print both options out to share with your quad mates.

Review body text sprint to vet body text typeface choices, sizes and leading options.

In class exercise: Choose one of your articles and design an opening spread using your typefaces from your text spec sheet sprint.

Set up a multipage document according to your chosen vendor specs. Set up your master pages with folio pagination, headers/footers, establish your own margins/live (safe) area and bleed. Start designing your first feature article opening spread by blocking in the body text and imagery.

As you work I will be having small crit groups to review your summer homework (half of the class).

Homework:

1. Finalize and print out your brand tagline, style/concept board, one page reader profiles, name for your magazine, synopsis, and flatplan of your magazine. It will be reviewed and used in next week's class.

2. Design the opening spreads for 3 feature articles. (One of the articles can be the in-class exercise you started in class).
