WEEK 8: Nov 12TH – Nov 16th
Type, image and composition
Presentations of your logo and symbol sets
BREAK
After the break there will be a presentation and lecture on student research, brainstorming and creating strategic design work.
Homework:
Final Project for the quarter. Over the next few weeks you will be creating a poster for one of the following events (click on your choice below to go to the site):
World's Largest Yardsale, 2019
The Poster should have very few words. For example, if you choose to work on the The Zombie Mud Run, these words could be your tagline/the headline: The Zombie Mud Run and 2019. The poster's strength should come mainly from the concept, the composition and the impact of it’s image or images. If your tagline/concept is strong you may want to use that as your primary text for your poster (instead of "The Zombie Mud Run").
For this week: Research your chosen project to see what the event is about. Figure out your audience, what the venue is like, what is expected to happen during the event, any historical details about the event might also be helpful to brainstorm ideas. Answer the Who, What, Where, When, and *Why.
Run through your brainstorming exercises and come up with possible concepts/ideas/taglines/headlines. Then vet your best idea and start sketching. By the time you are done sketching your ideas you should have at least 10 Thumbnail concepts for your poster. Next week bring your sketches and ideas to class for group feedback. During class next week you'll be listening to feedback and starting the process of creating comps of your chosen design concept.
